Thank your for playing your part
For 45 years, PCPA has been able to award over $500,000 in scholarships to actors and technicians annually, and what you have seen on the stage is a direct result of this giving.

Since launching our $200,000 scholarship appeal in February, you have responded with a resounding “yes!” that you want PCPA not only to survive, but to thrive. Letters of support, phone calls, and conversations in the lobby have all assured us that PCPA is an important part of our community and your cultural life.

Because of this outpouring of generosity, we’ve reached our minimum goal of $200,000 very quickly; however, your comments have indicated that you don’t want us to just get by. You want us to begin the summer season from a position of financial strength. To that end, I am asking if you haven’t already given, please join the hundreds of individuals who have supported Act Now! Don’t miss this opportunity to play your part, and if you have already given, thanks again!

We believe the art of theater to be more than desirable: we believe it to be necessary. [Read more]
HOW DOES MY GIFT HELP?

  • A typical PCPA scholarship is $290 a week.
  • Each year PCPA awards well over half a million dollars to deserving, hard working students and interns.
  • Your donations in 2008 helped fund once-in-a-lifetime training opportunities for:
    96 Interns - 43 Students - 17 Guest Artists

HOW DOES PCPA GIVE BACK?

An investment in PCPA's Scholarship Fund gives back in many ways...
  • By providing professional training for the actors and technicians of the future we are making sure that the arts - live theatre - continue to flourish and play a part in the lives of our children and grandchildren.
  • By producing year-round professional theatre in both Santa Maria and Solvang, we are ensuring the survival of our ability to nourish your spirit and provide an oasis of pleasure, insight and diversion, particularly during these difficult times.
  • Over 40,000 students annually are able to experience live theatre and the values and transformational powers it can impart through our Touring Shows and Student Matinees.

We have a tendency to be much more articulate with the expression of our needs than we are with expressing gratitude when our needs are met. As a consequence we may have a similar tendency to remember our challenges very well and be less inclined to retain the sense of hope and appreciation we ought to have if we truly took to heart, and remembered well, the fulfillment of our requests...

Most of us give, when we give, not so much for the thanks we will receive, but because we are persuaded in our own conscience that what we choose to support is of value. When there is a genuine need, and if we have the capacity and desire to meet that need, we do, and consider it a blessing to able to do so. The thing we value continues and there is our gratification....

Still, the gratitude we feel for the support the community has provided requires a greater expression...

"PCPA has given me the discipline, work ethic, and skill to compete in a very competitive career choice."
-Brianna Biller
Tickets sales only make up 1/3 of our budget.

Due to the economy, our income from grants, endowment interest and state funding is down.

We don't want to just wait and hope things improve. We want to be proactive.

We don't want you to pick up a newspaper and read, "PCPA Theaterfest closes its doors after 45 years."

"PCPA has given me the ability to create amazing art to share with the community. Without you, I'd only be sharing it
with myself!"
-Layli Kahani

"PCPA has taught me that giving too much
is always better than giving too little.
The training at PCPA is as rigorous and demanding as it is unique and rewarding."
-Jerry Lee

Numerous theatre companies across the nation have permanently closed.

PCPA is not immune - our students are at risk, our productions are at risk, and our ability to introduce young people to theatre is at risk.

So, while we cannot solve the nation's economic problems, we can join together to keep the arts alive here, now, and for the future.
"PCPA has given me an extraordinary life experience and world-class training."
-Keenon Hooks
