Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is a hands on approach. I am trying to give the students the valuable information they need in order to survive the world out there while also drilling in the basics of how to build scenery.  The scene shop is not always the most glamourous of the disciplines in technical theater. It is all worth it when you stand a project up and it looks pretty darn good. Working with students in the scene shop is about learning the ins and outs of using hand and power tools.  I make sure the students are trained on all our machinery before beginning their first projects. I then send them onto the shop floor and watch them build and answer questions as they arise but the most important lesson is up to them and sometimes you need to fail in order to succeed.
