FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 2008 PCPA THEATERFEST PRESENTS
Jealousy fuels the downward spiral that is Othello's demise in one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies. This timeless story plays in the Marian Theatre in Santa Maria from February 7 through March 2. The role of Othello will be played by one of PCPA's newest resident artists, Corey Jones. Jones is making a 360 degree transformation from his latest character, Max Detwiler in this seasons' holiday hit, The Sound of Music. Examining the character who's shoes he will fill, Jones said his supposed friend Iago (played by Andrew Philpot) finds Othello's Achilles heal and fully exploits Othello's jealousy forcing his ruination. He is so blinded by his jealousy as well as being duped by Iago, that he is unable to trust Desdemona's faithfulness, and in a fit of rage is compelled to take her life. Vanessa Ballam plays the ill-fated Desdemona. Also cast are Resident Artists Michael Jenkinson as Roderigo, Richard Gallegos as Cassio, Peter Hadres as Brabantio, Elizabeth Stuart as Emilia, Ricardo Valencia as Duke, and Omar Ricks as Montano. Othello is directed by Patricia M. Troxel and Callum Morris is the composer. Scenic Designer is Michael J. Dempsey, Costume Designer is Misti Bradford, Lighting Designer is Colleen Dowling and Sound Designer is Monica Falatic. Fight Directors are Mark Booher and Peter S. Hadres.
