FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 2009 PCPA IN THE SCHOOLS My Life = Art – PCPA in the Schools will be presented in the Marian Theatre in a free public performance Wednesday, April 29, at 7pm. Creating theatre out of real life by using the writing of local students is the core of PCPA’s Education and Outreach original new play entitled This Is My Story. The PCPA in the Schools project began as a series of writing workshops last winter. Phase II continued this spring as students’ words were crafted into a script that PCPA’s conservatory students then began rehearsing and fine-tuning. The final product, a sung, danced, and acted story straight from the students’ pens is now ready to hit the stage in a free public performance. Complimentary seating is first come first served, the doors open at 6:30 pm. The show is appropriate for fourth through 12th graders and their parents. The powerful and personal stories that comprise the production include such thoughts as, “The difficulty with life is never knowing what might happen today or the next day. You just have to have faith things will be okay.” And, “Relationships are like a tomato. One day they are red and beautiful, but if you drop it, it can get bruised and rotten.” In addition to this public presentation, PCPA in the Schools will return to the origin of the source material, Los Olivos Elementary School in Los Olivos, Fillmore Elementary School in Lompoc, and Arellanes Junior High School in Tanglewood where the inaugural project began three years ago. The piece will be performed for the entire school’s student body. Education and Outreach Director Leo Cortez said, “Seeing their own work performed, plays an important part in the development of students' verbal and written language skills, as well as providing a richly rewarding and creative experience.” For more information, contact PCPA Education and Outreach at (805) 922-6966 ext. 3156. | |
