PCPA Theaterfest presents The high-flying fantasy, Peter Pan, will delight children of all ages when the boy who will never grow up swoops down over the Marian Theatre stage November 4 through December 23, 2010. Grand adventures await on your journey to J.M. Barrie’s Neverland – “it’s not on any chart, you must find it with your heart.” Join Peter, Wendy, John, Michael and of course Tinker Bell, who along with the Lost Boys, do battle with the sinister Captain Hook and his pirate crew. Along the journey you’ll befriend Tiger Lily and her tribe and re-awaken your belief in fairies. This musical masterwork, with orchestrations from the recent Broadway revival, includes the favorites - "Never Never Land," "I Won't Grow Up" and "I'm Flying." Peter Pan will delight the immortal child in all of us! Peter Pan is directed by Patricia M. Troxel with musical direction from Callum Morris, choreography by Michael Jenkinson, scenic design by DeAnne Kennedy, costumes by Cheryl Odom, lighting design by Jen ‘Z’ Zornow and sound by Matt Carpenter. Flying effects is by ZFX. The cast includes Natasha Harris as Peter Pan, Erik Stein as Captain Hook, Elizabeth Stuart as Mrs. Darling, Peter S. Hadres as Smee, Michael Jenkinson as Starkey, and Evans Eden Jarnefeldt as Mullins. The Darling children are played by Jillian Van Niel (Wendy), Chase Kelly (John), and Marisa Dinsmoor (Michael). Peter Pan was first introduced by JM Barrie in 1901 in the short story, Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. The stage version was introduced in 1904 and has since been flying in theatres, capturing the imaginations and hearts of audiences worldwide. The play’s initial popularity spawned a book which was basically excerpts from the script – Peter Pan in Kensignton Gardens – released in 1906. Barrie expanded the work into a novel in 1911 entitled Peter and Wendy. Previously a play with music, the full musical version wasn’t created until 1954. It was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins and starred Mary Martin. Famous Peter Pans to follow have included Sandy Duncan and Olympic gymnast Cathy Rigby who won the Tony in 1998. Director Troxel said that this production enthusiastically embraces the magic of childhood. The boy who never grew up is the child in all of us who is youth, joy, and freedom. Childhood magic is revealed through the contrast between a world dominated by time (the London nursery), and Neverland a timeless place where one can never grow old. The other childhood magic of course is the amazement of flight. PCPA’s production will be assisted by the professional flyers from ZFX to bring all the magic of Peter Pan to life.
