“Not everything that counts can be counted,
and not everything that can be counted counts.”

~ Albert Einstein
Reflecting on the generosity of the community this past year, during one of PCPA’s toughest financial times, I remember that even our greatest quantifiers know that the value of some things defies simple numerical description. You proved that last year with your tremendous support. Because of you, students from around the country had the chance to be part of amazing productions such as Les Misérables and The Music Man and thousands came to enjoy watching them.

And, they are coming again, a summer company of nearly 200 gifted actors, designers and technicians, all needed to make possible a season of productions such as Curtains, Sylvia and West Side Story at the level of quality you have come to count on from PCPA.

This year we’re counting on you to contribute $150,000 toward the half a million dollars that PCPA awards every year in scholarships to promising young artists like Natasha and Ben, who are profiled in these pages. They are at the heart of this professional conservatory theatre. Without them the PCPA you know and love could not exist.

It’s possible to calculate how much it cost for PCPA to produce Les Misérables, but I could not begin to estimate the return realized on the scholarship money you invested in the growth of young professionals. I do know this - it returns an immediate, beautiful and incalculable value to the whole community from the PCPA stages – and we couldn’t have done it without you.

As we plan for the summer season ahead, I hope I can count on your collective vision and generosity again to keep the investment growing.

Mark Booher, Artistic Director

“Helping to design shows of this artistic caliber, at this early stage of my career, is enabling me to fill my portfolio with work of incredible creativity. Your support is honing my technical and artistic skills and allowing me to design with leading edge technology.”

Ben Starett assisting Resident Lighting Designer Jennifer 'Z' Zornow with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, 2009

Sam Zeller, Equity Actor
Les Misérables, 2009
Last year, after waiting twenty years to play the role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, my dream came true at PCPA.

Working closely with the students throughout the rehearsal process and during the entire run of the show, I was amazed at their commitment, their dedication and their artistry. Les Misérables is a huge show in every sense of the word. To be part of a production, one needs to vigorously prepare. The music is technically challenging, the staging is physically demanding, the sheer immensity of the show calls for enormous stamina and endurance. As a professional actor working in film, television and on stage, let me assure you, PCPA students know how to prepare.

Trained to be the best they can be, PCPA students know that in the demanding world of show business, just being very talented is not enough. A strong work ethic, perseverance and resolve are crucial to success. This one-of-a-kind program in the nation uniquely trains and positions this young talent for their launch into the professional world.

Thank you for supporting these wonderful students. Please give generously to the 2010 Scholarship Appeal; your gifts could not be more appreciated.
How Your Dollars Benefit PCPA

PCPA understands completely how much creativity it takes to stretch a dollar!
Knowing you already have other commitments and perhaps today less resources to
meet them, we invite you to partner with us in whatever way you can.

It’s coming… Curtains

PCPA students work hard. Six-day weeks, twelve-hour days are typical.
Part time jobs are not an option in such an intense training environment.
Scholarship money makes all the difference. Can you help these hard working artists?

It’s coming… Sylvia

PCPA’s annual budget is over $4 million. The chart below shows the varied funding
sources contributing to this annual need. We heavily rely on the help from individuals;
can we count on you?

It’s coming… West Side Story

Playing to a full house truly makes for a great experience for our students and our audience,
and it is another important way we support the art. You can always count on a great
performance from PCPA; can we count on you to be there?

It’s coming… Songs for a New World

Every year over half a million dollars in scholarship is awarded to students like Natasha
and Ben. Almost a third of this comes from our 2010 Scholarship Appeal.
Will you help us raise the $150,000 needed to meet this goal?

It’s coming… Invierno
