It’s not often you get to meet your heroes; however, Erik is overjoyed to announce that he will kick off PCPA’s monthly talkback series spending an hour chatting with one of his heroes, Jeff McCarthy.

Jeff grew up in Santa Maria just blocks away from PCPA where he studied and performed for several seasons. He received his masters in acting at the American Conservatory Theater before becoming an ACT company member, and he debuted on Broadway, playing opposite Anthony Quinn in Zorba.

Jeff originated the role of Bob Freelander in Broadway’s Smile, he originated Terry in the original Broadway cast of Side Show, and he is perhaps best known for his creation of Officer Lockstock in the Broadway production of Urinetown. He played the Beast in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, Dubhdara in Broadway’s The Pirate Queen, and Billy Flynn in the Broadway revival of Chicago. Jeff also created the role of Lola Cola in the premiere of the bluegrass musical, Southern Comfort at the Public Theater. Off-Broadway, Jeff created the title character in Kunstler, a two person show about the civil rights attorney, William Kunstler, and he played the title role in the stage version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! at Madison Square Garden.

Jeff has worked with such renown theatres as The Guthrie, Long Wharf Theater, Arena Stage, Barrington Stage, Denver Center Theater and many more.

Jeff has had an extensive film and television career guest staring on everything from Designing Women to The Good Wife to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jeff even had a recurring bit on David Letterman, and he was chosen by Chuck Jones to be the voice of Michigan J. Frog in Another Froggy Evening, a sequel to the original 1955 cartoon One Froggy Evening.

Join Erik and Jeff as they journey through Jeff’s life and career and discuss the impact of growing up on PCPA’s stages.
