Classes & Workshops

Youth and Community Arts now offers classes and workshops for all ages!  

All classes are student centered and built to explore a variety of age-appropriate skills while cultivating bravery, exercising and building social and emotional capacities, and expanding the imagination.  Classes are held at PCPA’s Studios located the Colombia Business Center on E Stowell Rd in Santa Maria. No prior experience is required. Learners of all abilities are welcome.

Holiday Cabaret: A festive dinner theatre experience at the Historic Santa Maria Inn

Come delight in the magic of the season while enjoying a three-course prix fixe dinner on the heated patio of the Historic Santa Maria Inn as performers from PCPA sing holiday classics and newer hits! Curated by resident Music Director Paul Marszalkowski and directed by Youth and Community Arts Director Marilet Martinez, this evening will be sure to warm your heart and fill your cup with good cheer! Let the music fill your ears as Chef Carolina Santana fills your plate with a specially crafted winter menu.

Ages 3-5-year-olds and their adult caregiver(s)  

The family that plays together laughs and learns together!  Designed for young children and their caregivers, these interactive workshops are play and imagination centered. Using age-appropriate materials, this class will explore story moments and characters through movement and sound. Families are encouraged to create together and discover new ways of connecting with each other and their community. Taught by our experienced Youth and Community Arts teaching team, these workshops will foster curiosity and play for all participants.

Young Theatre Makers

Dates February 18, 2026 -April 1, 2026
*Meets Wednesdays
Time 3:30-4:45PM
Ages 8-12 years olds 

Wander down the rabbit hole with Lewis Caroll’s classic adventure through Wonderland! Students will learn the fundamentals of character and storytelling while exploring this whimsical tale. This 8-week class meets on Wednesdays and is taught by the Youth and Community Arts teaching artist team. Young Theatre Makers invites elementary school learners to explore social and emotional connection, strengthen reading comprehension, practice courage through public speaking, and exercise the tenants of teamwork. Previous experience is not required. This program ends with a final performance for invited family and friends.

Teen Theatre Collective

Dates February 3, 2026-March 26, 2026 
*Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays
Time 4:30PM-6PM
Ages 13-18 years old, must be enrolled in middle or high school 

Teen Theatre Collective is an after-school program for high school students who want to explore the multidiscipline of theatre making as they work to create their own show. We will be re-imagining the Shakespearean classic, Much Ado About Nothing, using contemporary music and parody, while still utilizing heightened text as our foundation. This 8-week class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is taught by the Youth and Community Arts teaching artist team. Participants will not only perform the piece, but they will also have a direct hand in the adaptation and design process. Previous experience is not required. This program ends with a final performance for invited family and friends.

Pride Night

Youth and Community Arts is proud to partner with Gala Pride and Diversity Center to present PCPA Pride Night! Occurring throughout our season, PCPA Pride Night offers members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies the opportunity to gather in celebration, resilience, and theatre! Each ticket to Pride Night is offered at a special discounted rate and includes entry to a pre-show experience that is curated in theme with the production. These experiences include complimentary snacks and beverages, a Q&A with PCPA’s Resident Artists involved in the production we will be watching, photo stations,  interactive installations, community resource materials and raffle prizes from Gala Pride and Diversity Center; Pride Nights may also include sing-alongs, community affirmations, moments on the dance floor and more! Guests are encouraged to dress in theme with the show or wear whatever makes you feel PROUD.

Guided Tours of Our Theatres

Take a backstage tour of our Marian and Severson Theatres! Located on the Allan Hancock College campus, PCPA’s theatres are a part of the Central Coast’s lauded history as a cultural arts destination. This educational and entertaining experience walks guests through the ins, outs, and ups of our theatre spaces, while providing a deeper look into our company’s creative processes. The tour can involve stairs and high locations.

Tours are available Mondays and Thursday 9AM-4PM

A minimum of six people is required when booking.  ADA modifications can be discussed during the booking process.

Tour cost: Free! Tours of our spaces are complementary.

**If you would like to book a tour for 50 people or more, a suggested donation will be discussed.
